Welcome to my site.
The purpose of this web site is not to glorify war in any way. It is just a place where some of the 87th Combat Eng. Co. and other 199ers can post photos of us when we were young.
My personal belief is that Jehovah will cause all wars to cease and usher in the new order of things where peace will prevail. I also hope to see all the ones killed in war when they will be brought back to life. See John 5:28

If you were in the 87th send your photos and I will create a gallerie for you. You are welcome to copy any photo on this site.
Let other 87th'ers know about this site.

William Gill 87th Eng. RVN : I was a squad leader in the 87th from Aug.'68 to Aug.'69. The years have gone by and now I can't even remember the squad# or the platoon. I do know much of the time was spent in the field. This is a great site. Maybe things will come back to me.

Mule at FSB : This photo was in responce to this question.

I'm not a Vet. of the 199th but I have a question about whether or not the 2/3 had any M274 Mules or where they used by the 7th Support. I have one and am in the stages of stenciling it and was wanting to do it for the 199th. I just want to get it right.
Thanks in advance,
Kenny Grantham

Not quite the type Mule I had in mind. Nice piece of work though. I enjoyed the other pictures, even the original without the "Mule". I bet ole Bessie would look good with the 199th and 87E branded on her side.

Photos of Vencent A. Mondano : Hi John ,
I don't know if you remember me , I was also one of the Originals but I am not in your Photo . I was from Brooklyn, N.Y. My nickname was "TURK" Sgt . Ellis gave me that name . I was a demo man and very good friends with Ronnie Klentzin , and Dave(Candy) Kandefer who was a Grader Operator . My demo team , SP5 Chandler, SP4 Damstra and myself , were the first in the 87th to recieve the Army Comendation Medal for Valor . We were brought back from the boonies to Long Bhin to recieve the Medal . I came down with Bleeding Ulcers and left in May of 1967 , after being in the 24th Evac. for 3 weeks . I have lots of photos of us on the Pope , and the Base Camp Tent City . Please contact me and I will send them to you . When I saw your Company Photo I stepped back in time . It seems like yesterday I can't believe it was 37 years ago . I hope you or some of the other guys remember me . Its great that you gave the underrated 87th some recognition . Thank You

Soldiers Once : Soldiers Once: My Brother and the Lost Dreams of America’s Veterans
My brother, Jim, a Vietnam veteran whose life unraveled in the decades following the war, was buried on the eve of 9/11. He was a soldier once, proud and courageous, but in the end he lived in poverty and isolation, with little more than a drawer full of medals to show for twenty years of service. Thinking of my brother as I watched new wars being engaged in Afghanistan and Iraq, I wondered how we could keep the promise to support the troops, not just in the urgency of the battle, but in the long aftermath when they return home. Told in Soldiers Once, my brother’s story is the centerpiece of a larger story about our nation’s moral duty to heal our wounded warriors.
